Best Noise Cancelling App: Android Comparisons

Noise Cancelling App Android

Whether on the subway or a long flight, sometimes all you need is some sweet relief from the outside noise. And a noise cancelling app for Android can help you achieve that tranquility if you have a phone or tablet running the Android operating system.

Like all the app stores, searching the Google Play store for a good Android noise reduction app can be a bit of a challenge. You can end up wading through a lot of crap before coming upon something that is actually a good product.

With that in mind, I have used my new Samsung S3 Mini and navigated the app store for you. I tested out some real duds as well as some real nice Android noise cancelling apps.

Comparison of Noise Cancelling Apps for Android

1. Noise Canceller

Despite the average rating of 1.7 out of 5.0 stars, I thought I would give this one a try because it is free. It seems like a neat idea in theory – the app is supposed to generate a phase-inverted wave of the noise to cancel it out for you. Unfortunately, it never quite worked for me.

Conclusion: Skip this one.

2. Sleep and Noise Sounds

At first, I almost skipped this one since it is also for sleeping, but the high number of good reviews changed my mind. The sounds are high quality and you have several to choose from. It does seem that some of the sounds are better utilized for sleeping, but overall a good choice – especially since it is free!

Conclusion: Decent choice.

3. White Noise Lite

Based on the reviews, I really thought that this one was going to be better than it was. The “extreme rain” sound was nice, as was the “train” sound, but overall most of these noises were just annoying. The app starts up with crickets and then your next option is a loud fan that is not really a great fan sound. At least it is free.

Conclusion: Better choices available.

4. Relax Melodies: Sleep & Yoga

This app is free and has over 10,000 five-star reviews in the Google Play store. It also has a paid version available. Personally, I think that there are plenty of great choices without upgrading to the free version. In case you miss it when you download, swipe your screen as there are multiple pages of sound options. What I really love is that you can select several sounds to play in unison. This is a great noise cancelling app for all occasions and it is the one that I keep on my phone.

Conclusion: The best free noise cancelling app for Android phones and tablets.
